Joint Child and Women Model Village Project – 2018
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has launched the Joint Child and Women Model Village project in 10 selected villages in 10 Divisional Secretariats’ Divisions in 2018.

- Kalpitiya Panapidugama In order to achieve a successful implementation of the program at village level; an awareness program “A Happy Family and A Healthy Village” was held on 10th and 11th of September 2018 at Thalahena Training Center for Officers of 10 Divisional Secretariat Divisions where the project is in progress. The field Officers attached to our Ministry of Women and Child Development Units in those Divisional Secretariat Divisions, Grama Niladhari/ Economic Development Officer of the Village/ Child Rights Promotion Officers of the Districts/ Women Development Officer of the District have participated for this program. Dr. Duminda Guruge, the Senior Lectrurer of Health Promotion Unit at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, has conducted the program as the Resource Person. The entire program has been held with the proper active interaction upon the following key matters. • Early Childhood Development – Importance of first 1000 days/ Connection between brain development and Weight/ Arranging Baby Rooms/ Marking Nutrition Book/ Adding the ingredients for the Children’s Meal to increase their Memory Capacity/ Preparing Children Gardens • Health and Nutrition – Encourage to measuring and minimizing the usage of Oil, Sugar, Salt/ Importance of maintaining the BMI of the prescribed Community/ • Organic Gardening • Educating of how happiness affects for well-being and the creation of Happy Calendar • Inculcating the concept of “Sepagama” in the Community through imposing mental sensitiveness. • Enhancement of understanding on Child Protection • Minimization of Drug Addiction/ Calculation of Expenditure on Drugs • Marking TV Cards which conveys the adverse effects of Electronic Media for Children
At the end of the program the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has requested the commitment at dedication of all the participants to develop committee creative action plan for each village which would pave the way for an economically strong village the avoid violence against women against Women and Children.
